Man charged after 'impersonating police officer outside fast food restaurant'

A man has been charged with impersonating a police officer as well as theft in Sydney's southwest.

The man allegedly introduced himself as a police officer to a group of boys outside a fast food outlet in Mount Annan about 7.30pm on May 1.

He asked for identification and ordered the boys to move their vehicles, grabbing one of the boys by the arm, before leaving the scene in a Ford Ranger.

Barely two hours later, he went to a home at Spring Farm and introduced himself to the residents as a police officer, claiming he had to search a vehicle out the front.

He did so before leaving.

A short time later, he flagged down a 17-year-old boy riding a motorcycle in Springs Farm by tailgating him and flashing his vehicle's high beams.

He accused the teen of speeding and followed the boy home, where he searched his bag and took a camera and his driver's licence.

Following inquiries, the 47-year-old man was arrested when he presented himself at a police station.

He was charged with a number of offences and granted conditional bail to appear at Picton Local Court on Tuesday.
