Man charged after allegedly attacking women in road rage incident, court hears

A truck driver accused of a terrifying road rage attack on two women on a Melbourne freeway assaulted two people with a baseball bat the next day, court documents allege.

Elten Gevergizyan, 27, allegedly tailgated and side-swiped a car before confronting the two women, aged in their 60s, armed with a hammer and a stick near Melbourne Airport on Saturday.

It’s alleged he then chased one of the women and pushed her into a ditch beside the Tullamarine Freeway before hitting the car with a hammer several times and driving away.

Court documents, released on Wednesday, also show he is accused of running a car off the road at 100km/h at Epping on Sunday and hitting a man and a woman with a baseball bat.

Gevergizyan allegedly assaulted Katherine Robinson and David Robinson with a baseball bat, injuring both of them. He faces several charges over that incident.

In court, Gevergizyan sat in the dock with ruffled dark hair and did not speak during his brief appearance.

His defence lawyer Mihal Greener said it was Gevergizyan’s first time in custody and he was suffering from drug withdrawal since his arrest and needs asthma medication.

“He’d like some assistance with ice withdrawal. He’s feeling very nauseous,” Ms Greener said.

Gevergizyan did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody. His lawyer indicated he will seek release when he returns to court on June 8.
