A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Cessnock prison and charged with an attempted shooting murder from 2015.
NSW Police say the man was arrested on Tuesday morning following an investigation into a Sydney organised crime network.
The man was charged with the attempted shooting murder of a 49-year-old man in western Sydney in 2015 as well as drug supply.
Police searched a property in northwestern Sydney following the shooting where they found ammunition, fake number plates and chemicals.
Tuesday's arrest followed extensive inquiries including forensic and ballistic testing, police said.
The man has been charged with shooting with intent to murder and supplying a commercial quantity of methamphetamine.
The 26-year-old was due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
