A man has been charged over a "massive" factory fire in Melbourne's outer southeast.

Emergency services were called to the Rowville factory on Wednesday evening after receiving several calls that the single-storey building was on fire.

"One caller was very agitated saying it was a massive fire," a Fire Rescue Victoria statement said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control just after 9pm and deemed it suspicious.

A 59-year-old Boronia man was arrested and charged with attempted burglary, burglary with intent to damage and arson.

He is set to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.
