Man accused of looting of $80k worth of items in Queensland floods


A man found in the front yard of a flood-affected Townsville home with allegedly looted property has been charged with stealing.

Queensland Police charged the 57-year-old Mount Louisa man with two counts of stealing over the theft of property believed to be worth between $50,000 to $80,000.

Authorities were alerted to his alleged activities on Thursday morning after a resident claimed to see him stealing from a home in the city’s suburb of Idalia.

Most of the items were what police described as “expensive items” such as leather furniture, dining tables, dining suites, beds, fridges and washing machines.

He will face Townsville Magistrates Court on March 22 ,accused of stealing items that were drying in front yards outside flood affected houses between February 1 and 21.
