Man charged after cash-in-transit robbery

A man has been charged after a cash-in-transit driver was assaulted and robbed outside a supermarket.

A box containing cash was taken in the incident outside Asda in Colchester, Essex, at 13:00 GMT on Saturday.

A short time after the robbery a vehicle was stopped and two men were arrested.

One man has now been charged with robbery and failing to provide a sample for drink or drug testing.

The 40-year-old, of no-fixed abode, has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 1 April.

A second man, 46, from Colchester, was released on conditional bail while inquiries continue.
