Man charged with Australia Day camp attack

A 23-year-old man is accused of an Australia Day attack on two men camping by a dam south of Perth.

Police say the two men, aged 43 and 29, were asleep at the Waroona Dam campsite when they were woken by a loud noise just before midnight and attacked as they left their tents to investigate.

The 43-year-old man received serious injuries including bleeding on the brain, a broken nose and lacerations while the 29-year-old received a head wound requiring seven staples to close.

The 23-year-old will face several charges at Mandurah Magisrates Court on May 18.
