Man charged with attempted murder after alleged bashing of 84-year-old widow

A man has been charged with attempted murder over the alleged bashing of an 84-year-old woman inside her home at a retirement village in Sydney’s north.

A 43-year-old man from Orange will face court on Thursday following the alleged attack at the retirement village on Bobbin Head Road, North Turramurra on November 16.

Police allege the man seriously assaulted the woman, who has recently become a widow, after she returned to her home following a trip shopping.

She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital where she continues her rehabilitation.

Following extensive investigations, police arrested the man following a vehicle stop on the Pacific Highway at Wahroonga on Wednesday.

Police also executed search warrants at a hotel in Pyrmont and a home in Orange where investigators seized clothing and jewellery.

The man will appear at Hornsby Local Court on Thursday facing a slew of charges including attempted murder, aggravated breaking and entering and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
