Man charged after alleged attempted sexual assault of elderly woman

A man has been charged for allegedly attempting to sexually assault an 80-year-old woman after placing her in a headlock.

NSW Police allege that the man forced entry to a Newtown home in Sydney’s inner west at about 7.30pm on August 26.

The man allegedly grabbed the elderly woman and placed her in a headlock, before attempting to sexually assault her. Police allege that the woman fought back and the man fled the house.

The woman suffered injuries to her hands and legs and was treated at the scene. A NSW Police spokeswoman told Yahoo7 that the woman was not taken to hospital.

Following inquiries by officers from the Inner West Police Area Command, a 30-year-old man was arrested outside a unit in Enmore Road, Newtown, at about 5.30pm on Friday.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and was charged with charged with
‘assault with act of indecency’, ‘aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence- use violence’, and ‘aggravated sexual assault- break and enter with intent’.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
