'It's how people die': Photo reveals shocking reason for 'swerving' car

Drivers are in disbelief after a Sydney motorist was caught out in a dangerous act on a highway.

A passing motorist snapped a photo of a man “swerving” across the M5 Motorway with his eyes fixed firmly on a book on Wednesday morning.

“Dude having a solid read on the M5 this morning. It was not just a glance. This guy was swerving about the goddamn road having a grand time with his book,” the passing motorist said on the photo uploaded to Reddit.

Many joked about what could possibly possess him to read a book while driving.

“Maybe he was reading the road rules,” one said.

“Cut him some slack he was just cramming last minute on his way to his Ls test,” another claimed.

However others took the dangerous act a lot more seriously.

“If you got his plate, forward to the authorities. This is how people die,” one said.

“The carnage he could have caused,” another wrote in disbelief.

NSW Police told Yahoo News Australia Traffic and Highway Patrol was aware of the incident.

Anybody in NSW caught negligent driving can cop a fine of $448 and three demerit points.

The shocking act comes after the Safe Driving Report 2018 claimed 10.9 million Australians admitted to driving dangerously, which is 62 per cent of the population.

Among the most dangerous behaviours Aussies have undertaken behind the wheel includes micro-sleeping and changing clothes.

About four per cent have read a book or watched a movie while driving.
