A man attempted a spectacular trampoline jump as he tried to evade police during a dramatic getaway through suburban backyards.

The 38-year old man from Langford in Perth’s south was wanted by police, and they went to his home with an arrest warrant about 5.40pm on Tuesday.

Their presence sparked the man to attempt an “ambitious escape” that was captured by officers wearing body cams.

Police alleged the man climbed out of a bedroom window and into the backyard where he used a trampoline to jump up high to try to propel himself over the neighbouring fence.

A WA Police spokesperson said the “38-year-old man’s dreams of making the Olympic gymnastics team have fallen flat” during his arrest in Langford.

The man only managed to make it a short distance through a neighbouring yard before police jumped on him and placed him under arrest.

He has since been charged with offences including criminal damage for the destruction of two fence panels.
