Charges laid against a man who allegedly left a threatening note in the toilet of a flight from Sydney to Albury demonstrate how seriously authorities take security concerns, NSW police say.
The 30-year-old was arrested on the tarmac after Virgin flight VA1174 touched down and passengers were evacuated on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called after a one-word note written on a sick bag was discovered in the toilet, suggesting possible danger on board.
Passengers on the flight were told by crew members to leave their luggage and jump about 1.2m from the exits when the plane landed.
The man was later charged with sending a document threatening death or grievous bodily harm and giving false information.
"What this is showing is we do take things very seriously," a police spokeswoman told AAP.
"At the end of the day he caused a lot of angst and frightened a lot of people."
The man was released on bail after being charged and will appear in Albury Local Court on July 4.
