Man arrested after trying to meet up with 13-year-old girl for sex

A man accused of engaging in “highly sexualised conversations” with a 13-year-old girl before trying to meet up with her for sex has been arrested and charged.

It’s alleged the 63-year-old from Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs was also speaking to someone he believed was the mother of a 10-year-old girl. During this time it’s alleged he engaged in conversations about the sexual acts he wanted to perform on the child.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) first began engaging online with the man in August this year, resulting in “extensive investigations”.

On Tuesday morning just before 11am, the man was arrested by strike force detectives on High Street in Penrith.

“Shortly after the arrest, a search warrant was executed at a Matraville home, where investigators seized a laptop, computer tower, a video camera, and electronic storage devices,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The man was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with use of a carriage service to procure a person under 16 years for sex and use of a carriage service to transmit/publish/promote child pornography.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court later today.
