Man, 36, charged with murdering UK teacher Sabina Nessa

A man has been charged with murder over the death of primary school teacher Sabina Nessa.

The 28-year-old left her home in Kidbrooke, south London, on September 17 to make the five-minute walk through a local park near her house to meet a friend at a bar.

Tragically, she never arrived and her body was found in Cator Park the next afternoon by a dog walker.

Police said they had charged Koci Selamaj, 36, from Eastbourne on England's south coast, with murder. He is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court in London on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Police say they believe she was attacked at around 8.30pm.

According to The Sun, Mr Selamaj had lived with his girlfriend in Eastbourne, East Sussex until they split up around a month ago.

Only 'five minutes' from home

Vigils were held across the UK to remember Ms Nessa and to highlight violence against women.

Ms Nessa's sister Jebina Yasmin Islam, spoke at the Kidbrooke vigil, describing her sister as "brilliant".

"We have lost an amazing sister far too early ... Sabina loved her family. We have lost our sister, my parents lost their daughter and my girls have lost such a brilliant, loving, caring aunty," Ms Islam said.

“Words cannot describe how we are feeling. It feels like we are stuck in a bad dream and can’t get out of it. Our world is shattered. We have simply lost the words.

"No family should go through what we are going through.”

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, also paid tribute to Ms Nessa in a Twitter post, saying she was "saddened by the loss of another innocent young woman on our streets".

Ms Nessa's death sparked outrage across the UK about violence towards women.

In March, 33-year-old Sarah Everard was murdered while she was walking home from a friend's house at about 9:30pm (local time). A Metropolitan Police officer pleaded guilty to murdering her.
