A man has been shot in the stomach on the NSW Central Coast, with the perpetrator still on the run.

The 29-year-old man was found at a Killarney Vale home on Saturday morning and has been taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Crime scenes have been established at four separate locations in Killarney Vale, while the shooter is yet to be found.

NSW Police Detective Acting Inspector Shannon White said the incident may have been targeted and police did not yet know where the man was shot.

She said the victim was known to police.

"We believe it was targeted and that's all we have at this stage ... we don't believe it was a random shooting," Det Insp White told reporters.

"We're always concerned when someone is shot.

"We'll take every precaution to make sure we get all the evidence from whatever crime scenes we establish."
