Video of the scene showed at least one beachfront home on Malibu Road that was on fire.
The Broad Fire was sparked at about 9am near Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road, following a red flag warning of critical fire danger due to a combination of the Santa Ana winds and low humidity.
Malibu officials are urging residents to shelter indoors and be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen, as all lanes of PCH have been closed from Corral Canyon to Webb Way. Pepperdine University, which is located nearby, reported no change in operations.
Meanwhile, more than 10,400 acres have burned in Ventura County’s Mountain Fire since sparking north of Highway 118 on Wednesday morning, with sustained winds of more than 50mph and 0% containment, VCFD announced in a press conference. Multiple structures have been damaged, and evacuations are underway.
