Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz unrecognisable in new TV role: 'Oh s**t'

Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz has shocked fans with his unrecognisable look as he appeared in a new TV role.

The 36-year-old took on a cameo role in NBC's hospital drama New Amsterdam earlier this month, playing the role of an alcoholic whose sister needs a liver transplant.

Frankie, who rose to fame in the Malcolm in the Middle sitcom, which ran from 2000 to 2006, looked unrecognisable with a shaved head and stubble goatee.

The actor posted a photo of a scene from the show on his Instagram account, wowing fans with his transformation.

"You look like Jesse Pinkman," one person wrote, referring to the Breaking Bad character.

"Oh s**t," another said.

"Frankie Pinkman," a third said.

Many others were stoked to see Frankie back on the screen, with the actor picking up odd TV cameos for the past few years.

New Amsterdam co-star Jocko Sims said on his post, "You killed it on set bro. Was great working with you", while the official NBC New Amsterdam account said, "We couldn't be happier to have you".

After appearing in Agent Cody Banks in 2003, Frankie pursued a career in car racing.

He finished 7th in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in 2004 and finished third the following year.

In 2006 he entered 14 races after signing a two-year deal with Jensen Motorsport.

After pursuing racing in the subsequent years, he made his stock car racing debut last year, competing in the SRL Pro Late Model series driving for High Point Racing.

It's just one of many career ventures for the actor, who in 2018 also purchased the Outrageous Olive Oils & Vinegars specialty store in Arizona with his wife Paige Price.
