Parents drive 30km before realising son was left behind at playground

A toddler was accidentally left behind at a playground by his parents who drove 32 kilometres to their home before realising he was not in the car.

The three-year-old boy is one of seven children and his family were returning to Malacca, in the south-western Malaysian state of the same name, from the capital of Kuala Lumpur when they stopped at the R&R Ayer Keroh restaurant.

“When I was eating, the kids were running everywhere, so I asked my husband to take them to the nearby playground,” the boy’s 36-year-old mother told local media.

“After I was done eating, I immediately asked them to return.

“At the same time, our fourth and fifth children were fighting, crying and running around. It made the situation a bit chaotic.”

On the way home, the parents failed to realise their sixth child, an unnamed three-year-old boy, was still at the playground.

Iza said she thought her son was sitting in the back of the car, but did not realise he was not there until they got home.

“The moment I noticed our son was not in the car, I felt like all my life was knocked out of me. My body was numb,” she said.

“Luckily, my husband is a very calm person and he immediately called his friend to help look for our son in R&R Ayer Keroh.”

According to Iza, the friend told them their son was safe and sound at a nearby police station after an Indian restaurant worker spotted the boy in the playground.

His frantic parents eventually picked him up.

Iza thanked everyone at R&R Ayer Keroh and the police station for looking after her young son.
