Major security breach at Melbourne Airport as man ran on to tarmac

Police have been called to Melbourne Airport following a security breach.

A Jetstar spokesperson confirmed there was an incident at Melbourne Airport on Thursday morning and alleges a passenger assaulted several crew members “and breached security access to the tarmac”.

“We praise our crew for safely handling this incident and restraining the passenger until police arrived,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and we have placed an immediate ban on this passenger travelling on all Jetstar and Qantas flights.”

It’s believed the flight was delayed more than an hour.

An Australian Federal Police spokesperson confirmed officers “responded to an incident” at Terminal 4 on Thursday morning.

“A man was arrested as a result and is currently assisting police with enquiries,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“Enquiries in relation to this matter remain ongoing.”

Melbourne Airport would not comment on the matter.
