Major city rocked by overnight stabbings
Two men in Sydney have been rushed to hospital overnight after they were both stabbed in the chest in separate attacks.
NSW Police are investigating both incidents and are calling for anyone who witnessed or has footage to come forward.
Police say the first incident unfolded during a brawl at Circular Quay, in the city’s CBD, about 12.30am when a 20-year-old man was stabbed with a broken glass bottle.
The young man was located at the scene with a chest injury and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition, according to a police spokesman.
“Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command have been informed that another male involved in the incident left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services,” the spokesman said.
“Neither party are believed to be known to one another.”
Less than two hours later officers were called to a second incident on Macquarie St in Liverpool in Sydney’s southwest.
About 2.20am a 44-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds. NSW Police said witnesses said he’d been stabbed after attempting to intervene in an alleged assault.
“Police have been told the man was stabbed multiple times when he attempted to intervene after witnessing a man allegedly assaulting a woman in a parked car,” the force said in a statement.
“The injured man is not believed to be known to the pair.”
NSW Police say they’ve spoken to the woman who was not injured in the alleged assault.
Anyone who witnessed or has footage of stabbings has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
