Magnitude 7.1 quake strikes southeast of New Caledonia
An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 has struck southeast of the Loyalty Islands near New Caledonia.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said Saturday's quake hit at a depth of about 36km.
The Bureau of Meteorology said there was no tsunami threat to Australia following the quake.
Saturday's quake comes after a magnitude 7.7 tremor hit the Loyalty Islands on Friday.
Geoscience Australia said that quake struck at a depth of 31km.
