Madonna regrets turning down ‘Matrix’ role: ‘I wanted to kill myself’

Madonna dropped by “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Thursday, where she talked about some of the famous movie roles she turned down. While it’s long been rumored she turned down Catwoman in “Batman Returns” and Nomi Malone in “Showgirls,” she surprised everyone when she revealed the biggest blockbuster she passed on.

“I also turned down the role in “The Matrix,” Madonna revealed. “Can you believe that? I wanted to kill myself.”

While she didn’t specify which character, the lead female character was Trinity who was played by Carrie-Anne Moss. The beloved trilogy went on to gross over $1.6 billion worldwide and remains one the Material Girl’s biggest regrets.

“That's like one of the best movies ever made,” Madonna said. “A teeny tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”
