Macron Will Visit Cyclone-Hit Territory of Mayotte on Thursday
(Bloomberg) -- French President Emmanuel Macron will be in Mayotte on Thursday, after tropical cyclone Chido devastated the French overseas territory, according to his office.

The cyclone caused widespread destruction, and French authorities have said that it’s too early to estimate the death toll. Emergency crews are still working to rescue survivors, with hundreds of soldiers and firefighters sent to Mayotte to assist in recovery efforts.
The French government is working to restore access and sending aid, including medicine, food, and water.

Macron was initially supposed to attend a summit of European Union leaders in Brussels on Thursday. His new prime minister, Francois Bayrou, will continue political consultations on Wednesday in a bid to form a cabinet before the end of the week.
