Machine Gun Kelly gets candid about his mental health: 'I'm new to being vulnerable'

Machine Gun Kelly got candid about his mental health in an interview for The Drew Barrymore Show, where the singer admitted he's "having a really weird day."

The interview, which aired on Friday, shows Kelly coming on to chat with Barrymore and promote his new line of nail polishes. As soon as he sits down to paint the host's nails, however, he opened up about his current mood.

"I don't want to come off like I'm cold or I'm like shy but I'm just a little insular and I’m just having an odd day," Kelly said, to which Barrymore told him, "You're in a really safe space."

The actress then admitted to crying on set a few days earlier and feeling that her show was made for deeper, emotional conversations.

"I think I'm new to being vulnerable outside of songs," Kelly explained. "I see a lot of pictures of me and there's smiles on them and I’m always like, it’s just weird though because I didn’t feel good at all that day. And I kind of am sick of smiling on days when I don't feel like smiling and I feel this odd pressure because I don't want my fans to think that I'm taking something for granted."

Kelly, 31, is constantly at the center of media attention as his music career continues to take off. He's also half of Hollywood's current "it" couple with Megan Fox. Still, he finds it difficult to live authentically with all of the pressure, which he said Fox has helped him with.

"A lot of what I do is for other people and I haven't given myself the time to just accept that it's OK to not be OK," he said. "My girl is really centered and kind of was like the one who encouraged me to face my past and stuff and pick out what it is that I'm running from and why I put on those smiles that I don't want to wear and stuff like that. So that was big for me."

Another great source of support for the musician is his 12-year-old daughter Casie.

"I was just walking behind my daughter in the airport the other day and she just has this walk, it's this pure bounce. She's so excited for life, she's so young in her life and I've experienced so much in my life," he said. "I just pray to every god that exists that she keeps that bounce forever and no one interferes with that and that I always get to stand back and watch her have that bounce. I will take any amount of torture that would come her way if it could just be on me so she could keep that forever because that’s something that … it's worth living for to see that."

Kelly's fans know that he and his daughter have a close relationship, as he brings Casie to join him on red carpets and even on stage at some of his shows. In a rare moment when Casie got in trouble at school, Kelly felt validated in just how far she'd go to protect her dad.

"I got a call one time where her school was like, 'Hey so your daughter got into a thing with this boy.' And I was like, what happened? They were like, 'The boy was talking bad about you,'" Kelly told Barrymore with a smirk on his face. "And I was like, 'Good job. Don't ever do that again but I love you so much.'"
