Luxurious lives of women accused over $40m fraud

The second of two women accused over a $40 million fraud at the National Australia Bank has appeared in court.

Police say Helen Rosamond and her friend Rosemary Rogers colluded to overcharge the bank, then went on a lavish spending spree around the world.

Ms Rogers was the assistant to former NAB CEO Andrew Thorburn, while Ms Rosamond runs The Human Group events company.

Police allege they overcharged NAB for contracts – won with bribes – worth $6.6 million, which was part of a larger fraud worth $40million.

“We’ve seized a warehouse full of documents and electronic documents and systems and we’re forensically working our way through,” NSW Police’s Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said.

The Human Group had worked with National Australia bank for 12 years on contracts valued at $118 million.

However the alleged fraud occurred over four years, between 2013 and 2017, when police say the two women spent increasingly huge amounts of money on luxury goods and travel.

Among the expenses were houses, cars, a boat and $76,000 spent on a 50th birthday on the harbour as well as Ms Rogers’ month-long Hawaiian getaway costing $485,000.

If convicted, both women face up to seven years in jail.
