An Aldi employee has been praised over a kind gesture for a little girl who was shopping with her mum.

The parent was shopping for the first time at a new Aldi after moving house in the US state of North Carolina when at some point, her cheeky daughter managed to sneak a box of chocolates into their trolley.

When they got to the checkout the mum spotted the additional treat amongst her groceries and explained her daughter’s cheeky antics to the employee, who was named Kawon.

“I tell the cashier what happened and that I need to put them back. He said he would take care of it and proceeds to ring up our items,” she said in a post shared to Facebook.

The mum paid for the groceries, sans the chocolate, and prepared to leave, but Kawon interrupted the process and asked that she “wait a second”.

“He gets the other cashier to ring it up and he pays out of his pocket for this big box of chocolates for my daughter,” she said.

“It may have been a small gesture to him but his thoughtfulness and kindness means so much to us.”

She had no doubt her daughter would remember his kind act on every future visit to the store.

“Thank you Kawon for being so awesome. We Aldi.”

The post was shared to a Facebook group named Overheard at Aldi and attracted more than 1400 reactions.

“It’s the little things that really show how kind hearted a person really is. Well done to this gent,” one person wrote in a comment.

“Not all heroes wear capes. Bet your daughter thinks he's the best ever,” another said.

“Love this,” a third wrote.
