Love Island’s Coco Lodge has said her dad called producers over how she was being portrayed and with worries for her mental health when she was on the show.

The 27-year-old was on the current series of the ITV dating programme, which has received thousands of Ofcom complaints and has been hit with claims of misogynistic behaviour from some of the male contestants.

Lodge – who was dumped from the island earlier this month – has now opened up about her experience on Access All Areas on FUBAR Radio.

And she said her dad asked bosses to show her whole personality as what was being shown of her was triggering a lot of nastiness on social media.

She said: “When I was in the villa, apparently my dad called the producers and was like, you need to show her full personality because what you're showing is causing so much hate and I’m just not here for it and you're going to ruin my daughter's mental health.”

Asked to describe her Love Island experience, she said it was a “rollercoaster”.

Lodge entered the competition as one of the bombshells.

She was close to contestant Andrew Le Page when she was on the show but their relationship didn’t work out.

“Then I had like, the downfall of everything,” she said on Access All Areas.

“It kind of was actually really hard for me. What's not shown on the edit of it is the fact that I was literally hyperventilating, crying loads, like I really, really struggled at first, not even just with Andrew but the girls, like some of them weren't welcoming to begin with and it was actually really hard."

Since leaving, Lodge has also claimed some of the boys made negative comments about her looks.

Opening up in a YouTube video with Murad Merali, she said: "There was comments made when the filming was off about I'm a four out of ten by some of the boys.”

This year's series of the show – which is hosted by presenter Laura Whitmore – has attracted accusations of misogyny, with claims that females are shamed for sexual encounters while men are glorified for the same behaviour.

Domestic abuse charity Refuge has waded in, saying the alleged "misogyny and casual sexism" was "extremely concerning".
