Lotto winner reveals lucky moment outside shop before $1m win
A Victorian woman has received a belated wedding anniversary gift of $1 million after winning Monday night’s division one Lotto draw.
The winner, from Altona Meadows, southwest of Melbourne, told The Lott she purchased the ticket on a whim just days after celebrating the major milestone with her husband.
“This feels like a bit of a belated wedding anniversary gift,” she laughed.
“This will set us up for retirement. We’ve been planning to retire shortly and this will set us up for the rest of our lives.
“I only bought this ticket on a whim. I thought: ‘you know what, I might have a go tonight’.
“I don’t normally play Monday and Wednesday Lotto at all. I was just walking past, and I just decided to pop in and get a ticket and try my luck on a Monday. Luck was on my side!”
The woman said she checked the ticket as the couple were watching TV.
“All I could do was pass my husband the phone and say: ‘look at this, look at this!’” she said.
