An Aussie woman who said the most money she'd ever won on the lottery was $8.60 has revealed her "shock" and disbelief at pocketing an incredible $1 million at the weekend. From Sanctuary Point in the City of Shoalhaven in NSW, the new millionaire said "she'd been playing the numbers for a while" but never won more than $9 until now.

She said she's in the market for a new house and car after her stunning win, and can finally replace her washing machine — which she said "is stuffed". The winning numbers in Saturday's Lotto draw 4485 on 13 July 2024 were 21, 2, 36, 24, 18 and 1, while the supplementary numbers were 14 and 27.

The "gobsmacked" NSW woman said she'll need to go and drink a beer to digest her new found fortune.

"I’m in shock," she said. "My face is all red, my neck is all red. I’ve only just found out the news. I thought I’d better check my Lotto ticket.

The woman said she'd "had these numbers for a while", but "can’t remember why I chose them". "They’re just random numbers I picked and kept playing them," she said.

"The most I’ve ever won is $8.60. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight; I’m absolutely gobsmacked. I’m going to buy a house, a new car and my washing machine’s stuffed – I’ll get a car first. I think I’ll go have a beer now. It’s more of a shock than anything else."

While you'd expect those who win big on Australia's lotteries to spend big, splashing the cash to their heart's desire. Matt Hart, The Lott and Keno's General Manager of Public Relations, previously revealed to Yahoo that household chores are often at the forefront of winners' minds.

"I'm always stunned how often Dyson vacuum cleaners come up. Because if you've won $20, $60 million, you could probably buy a few Dyson vacuum cleaners," he said.

While lottery enthusiasts will undoubtedly be excited by the latest update, gambling officials have long warned punters it's very unlikely most will never win first prize.

Ever heard that you're more likely to die on your way to go and buy a Powerball ticket than actually winning? Turns out it's true, especially if you're driving there.

According to The Lott themselves, the chances of winning division one in Powerball, based on one standard game, are a vanishingly small one in 134,490,400.
