'I can't stop crying': $2.9 million Lotto win reignites couple's dream

A couple from South Australia can soon fulfil their dream of buying a home and travelling after winning a $2.9 million Lotto prize on Saturday.

The couple from Kilkenny had one of two winning division one entries in Saturday X Lotto draw 4163 and were very emotional about their win.

“I am so sorry. I can’t stop crying,” the man told officials from The Lott.

“We found out on Saturday night. We always check the numbers online after the draw, and we just couldn’t believe it."

He said he and his partner had been using the same numbers for "years and years", so they knew they had won as soon as they saw the numbers.

On seeing the winning numbers — 13, 45, 5, 28, 37, and 15 with supplementary numbers 1 and 43 — they burst into tears.

He admitted he hasn't stopped crying since they found out.

“You know, we certainly aren’t rich people, and we haven’t been able to buy a house or anything like that, so for us, this changes absolutely everything," he said.

Couple set to buy a home and invest in retirement

The couple said the first thing they will do is buy a home, then help their kids out and invest in their future retirement.

He said he and his partner have no intention of retiring just yet, however the Lotto win will be a huge help.

“We will keep working for a few years, but this definitely gets us one step closer to our dream of being grey nomads!" he said.

"So we’d like to get ourselves a caravan in the future so we can travel.

“We aren’t going to go crazy, but we will certainly enjoy it.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Kilkenny Lotteries Kiosk at Arndale Central Shopping Centre. Owner Kim Nguyen said she was very excited for the couple.

“There will definitely be some celebrating, but we are more happy for the customers, than for us," she said.

“I can imagine the winners are busy planning all the things they are going to do with their prize.

“We haven’t sold a division one winning entry for a few years, so it’s very exciting.
