Man finally wins Lotto after using same numbers 'for years'

A Melbourne man has won more than $400,000 from TattsLotto after the numbers he’s been using for decades finally won him a prize.

The man, from Cheltenham in the city’s southeast, was one of 15 division-one winning entries from Saturday night’s draw.

He found out about his winnings after reading the newspaper on Sunday.

“At first, I said to my wife, ‘Hey, I think we have some of these numbers’,” he said.

“I have been playing them for years and years; they’re sort of ingrained in me.

“Then I kept looking and instantly realised we actually had all of the numbers, but I said to my wife ‘let’s go into The Lott head office first. We don’t want to get too excited about this unless we know for sure’.”

He was concerned someone would “pull the rug from out from under us” and ruin his lottery dream.

But it turns out he had taken home $409,991.02.

“We had a few drinks on Sunday night, and then we just spent yesterday (Monday) letting the news sink in," he said.

“We are going to give some to our kids, and the rest will be used for our retirement."

The man’s winning numbers were 23, 9, 27, 7, 13 and 6, while the supplementary numbers were 1 and 33.

The other winners were five from Victoria, three from Western Australia, two from Tasmania, two from South Australia, one from NSW and one from Queensland.
