LNP slams Palaszczuk over Mackenroth stand

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's plan to name a grandstand at Suncorp Stadium after Labor stalwart Terry Mackenroth is "out of touch", Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington says.

News Corp Australia reported on Wednesday that Ms Palaszczuk would name the eastern grandstand after the former director of the Australian Rugby League and Queensland Rugby League, who died in April.

Mr Mackenroth was also deputy premier under current Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter Beattie from 2000 to 2005.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington has questioned whether the accolade should be given to a Queensland sporting icon instead.

"Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium) is one of the most iconic and historical grounds in Australia that some of Queensland's most distinguished sports people have graced," Ms Frecklington said.

"I think the premier's decision is hubris at best. It is out of touch and inappropriate."
