    Former prime minister John Howard has given his thoughts on the upcoming US election, taking a swipe at both candidates.

    “I’m glad I don’t have a vote there … I don’t think she’s got a very good idea of how to run the American economy. But Donald Trump did not leave the field when the umpire’s finger went up," he said in an interview with Nine.

    “Everything we’re witnessing in America tells us, that their political system is far inferior to ours.

    “In a parliamentary system, Donald Trump would have never got to the leadership of the Republicans and I don’t think Kamala Harris would have ever got to the leadership of the Democrats.”

  • Boy saves dad's life after bear attack

    A dad has recalled how his 12-year-old son saved his life after he shot a bear on top of his father.

    Ryan Beierman, 43, was hunting with his son Owen when they began tracking an injured bear. They found the bear but it charged at Ryan, pinning him down.

    “The bear was fighting for its life, and I was fighting for mine,’’ he told The Minnesota Star Tribune.

    “I was flat on my back and could feel the bullet going through the bear. Owen was a hero. He shot that bear and killed it on top of me.’’

    Ryan suffered extensive cuts to his face, arms and legs and was rushed to hospital where he received stitches for the injuries.

    Australia's temperamental weather will roll on next week with every state and territory set for a soaking.

    "Rain and thunderstorms will increase over the north of WA this weekend as tropical moisture feeds into a deepening area of low pressure," Weatherzone explained, saying rains could last for up to 10 days.

    "This wet and stormy weather will then spread over central Australia on Monday before forming a broad rainband that will drench southeastern and eastern Australia between Tuesday and the end of next week."

    By next Friday, some areas in WA, the NT, NSW and Tasmania could cop up to 100mm, modelling shows.

  • Big croc captured and euthanised after several sightings

    A crocodile has been euthanised in the Whitsundays after several sightings from concerned members of the public.

    Authorities managed to locate the 2.5m croc on Thursday night, and the environment department say it was "humanely euthanised".

    It had been spotted at least seven times around Hook Island and Hayman Island, including at a marina.

    "The removal of this animal from the wild highlights the importance of reporting all crocodile sightings to the department,' it said.

  • Labor frontbencher not expecting rate cut

    With plenty of excitement caused by the US' decision to drop its interest rates, there's hope in Australia the RBA will follow suit.

    But Labor frontbencher Bill Shorten doesn't think that'll come next week.

    "It is significant that the Fed has decided to lower interest rates in American by half a per cent, but our economies are not identical, so how long that takes to flow through, and the impact that has, remains to be seen," he told ABC Radio on Friday.

    "Our dollar rallied on the basis that the Fed was cutting rates, and of course, with a rallying dollar, it means that we're able to buy more, it takes some inflationary pressure off us."

  • Mum shares son's horror injuries from dog attack

    A mother has shared terrifying injuries her young son sustained after he was mauled by a friend's rescue dog.

    Swayde Rangi was at playdate at his friend’s house in Yangebup in Perth’s south last month when he was mauled by a bull Arab cross.

    The young boy was left with horrific wounds to his eye, ear, and forehead, and after multiple surgeries there are still more to come.

    His mother, Jasmine Santich, said she went into an “instant state of shock” during the attack and was now calling for answers.

    “His forehead was exposed to the skull. His tear duct had been completely split in half,” the young mum told Nine News.

  • Commonwealth changes rate cut prediction

    Commonwealth has pushed back its prediction for a long-awaited interest rate cut by a month, moving it to December from November.

    It is still the earliest rate cut forecast by all of the major banks, with Westpac and ANZ expecting a February cut and NAB forecasting one in May.

    CBA head of Australian economics Gareth Aird said the change was a result of "the August labour force survey coupled with still relatively hawkish rhetoric from the RBA Governor".

    The winner of last night's Powerball was on her way to work when she discovered her life-changing win, taking home more than $22 million.

    “I just got to work, and I couldn’t help but yell out to everyone, ‘I won the $20 million!'" the Sydney woman in her 30s told lottery officials.

    While the division one prize was initially $20 million, due to a large number of ticket sales, an extra $2.2 million was added to the jackpot.

    The 61-year-old led the Australian soccer team to their best finish at a World Cup in 2022 where they made the round of 16 for only the second time.

    The tour will continue through Asia and reach the UK in May, with more dates and countries set to be announced in the coming weeks. Along with Perth, Kylie will visit Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.

"I can’t wait to share beautiful and wild moments with fans all over the world, celebrating the Tension era and more!
