G7 defence ministers concerned over 'threats' to UN peacekeepers in Lebanon

G7 defence ministers on Saturday expressed concern over “the risk of further escalation” in the Middle East as well as “threats” to the security of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, where Israel has been accused of targeting the UN troops. Earlier, Israeli air strikes hit the southern suburbs of Beirut shortly after Israel ordered residents to evacuate from areas it says harboured facilities “belonging to Hezbollah”.
