Live blog 2020: Follow Week 2 college football Saturday with Yahoo Sports
Three QBs took center stage Saturday night — one from the ACC and two from the Big 12 — as the two Power Five conferences kicked off the 2020 college football season.
And they delivered.
Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence completed 22 of 28 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown and also ran for two scores in the No. 1 Tigers’ 37-13 victory at Wake Forest.
Trevor Lawrence had never had multiple rush TDs in a single game.

Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was 25-of-33 passing for 426 yards and five touchdowns — including a 78-yard strike to Joshua Moore on the first offensive play of the season — in the No. 14 Longhorns’ 59-3 romp over UTEP.

New Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler didn’t waste any time making an impact. Playing only in the first half, Rattler completed 14 of 17 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns in the No. 5 Sooners’ 48-0 rout over Missouri State.

It’s too early to tell how Saturday will impact the Heisman race, but you’ll be hearing about all three of them throughout this unusual college football season.

No. 1 Clemson 37, Wake Forest 6
QB Trevor Lawrence had two first-quarter TD runs for the Tigers, who have won 12 consecutive meetings with the Demon Deacons. Lawrence threw for 351 yards and tossed his lone TD pass of the game in the second quarter.
No. 5 Oklahoma 48, Missouri State 0
QB Spencer Rattler threw four TD passes, and Seth McGowan had a 1-yard TD run as the Sooners rolled.
No. 10 Notre Dame 27, Duke 13
Notre Dame’s first game as the member of a football conference was a successful one. Kyren Williams rushed for 112 yards and two scores on 19 carries as the Irish opened the 2020 season with an ACC victory over Duke. Irish QB Ian Book only threw one TD pass, but it was a big one. Leading only 17-13, Book hit Avery Davis with a 17-yard strike to give Notre Dame a 24-13 lead with 10:58 to play.
No. 14 Texas 59, UTEP 3

Javonte Williams’ three fourth-quarter TD runs helped the Tar Heels pull away.
Louisiana-Lafayette 31, No. 23 Iowa State 14
What an upset! Louisiana-Lafayette scored the game’s final 24 points to pull off the shocker. It’s the Ragin' Cajuns’ first road victory over an AP Top 25 team in school history.
Georgia Tech 16, Florida State 13
Jeff Sims threw a 15-yard TD pass to Malachi Carter as the Yellow Jackets tied the score 13-13 with 13:17 remaining, but Jude Kelley missed the extra point. But Kelley kicked a 32-yard field goal with 8:56 remaining for the final margin.
Arkansas State 35, Kansas State 31
Layne Hatcher threw a 17-yard TD pass to Jonathan Adams Jr. with 38 seconds to play gave Arkansas State the victory.
West Virginia 56, Eastern Kentucky 10
RB Leddie Brown had three first-half TDs for the Mountaineers, who rolled despite missing 11 players — including three starters — who were suspended for the game for violating team rules. It’s not COVID-19 related.
Pittsburgh 55, Austin Peay 0
QB Kenny Pickett has a TD pass and TD run as Pitt scored 42 points in the first half on their way to an easy victory.
Louisville 35, Western Kentucky 21
Micale Cunningham accounted for four touchdowns and passed for a career-high 343 yards, helping Louisville overcome a mistake-prone start.
Texas Tech 35, Houston Baptist 33
Texas Tech survived a late scare by the upset-minded Houston Baptist.

Baylor-Houston matchup scheduled
Both suddenly left without an opponent for next week due to COVID-19 cases, two Texas schools have quickly arranged a game for Sept. 19.

Virginia-Va. Tech Sept. 19 game ppd.
Virginia and Virginia Tech won’t open their seasons against each other. Virginia Tech said Saturday morning that the Sept. 19 rivalry game wouldn’t be played as scheduled because it’s having to suspend practices and workouts for four days due to positive COVID-19 tests within the team.

Memphis’ Sept. 19 game also ppd.
Memphis became the latest football program to pause team activities after a COVID-19 outbreak on Friday, with the program announcing “a number of individuals connected with the Tigers’ football program had tested positive” for the virus.

BYU announced that its game at Army next Saturday has been postponed due to “a small number of positive COVID-19 test results and the resulting tracing exposures within the BYU football program.”
