Little boy with congenital heart disease has cricket wish granted

A special wish has been granted to a brave seven-year-old boy who is battling congenital heart disease.

Cricket crazed Archie Schiller arrived in Melbourne on Sunday morning to a rockstar welcome before being handed the Aussie captaincy for the Boxing Day test.

The young boy has only ever been to Melbourne for hospital visits.

“When we said we don’t have to go to hospital I don’t think he still believes us, I think he still believes that we’re heading to hospital,” Archie’s mum, Sarah Schiller told 7News.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation has made Archie’s dreams come true, by giving him the top job for Summer.

“I’m going to be Captain of Australia,” the 7-year-old said.

Last Christmas we didn’t think we’d get home with Archie from his surgery and now to be together just as a family, very very special,” Archie’s mother said.

Captain Schiller was quickly put to work after being kitted out with new bats, pads and the official Australian Blazer.

On his agenda a quick media conference at Yarra Park, before greeting fans on stage and posing for the official captain’s photo with the trophy.

The biggest part of Archie’s cricket journey is still to come, when he walks out on the MCG on Boxing Day, alongside Aussie captain Tim Paine to toss the coin.

Now all that is left to do before the big day is practise with his new teammates, where he’s just one of the boys.
