Lismore floods: Beloved country singer 'icon' identified among the dead

An Australian country music singer from Lismore has been identified as one of the women who died in the wake of the devastating floods in NSW.

At least three confirmed deaths had been recorded in the flood crisis in the northern town of Lismore by Wednesday afternoon.

One of the victims was identified as Marge Graham, a prominent country music singer and broadcaster.

Tributes have been shared to social media in the wake of Ms Graham's death, where many highlighted her achievements throughout her career, including the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA).

"The CMAA is saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Northern NSW country music performer, broadcaster, promoter, and event organiser Marge Graham," the tribute shared to Facebook said.

Fellow country music singer Reg Poole OAM also paid tribute to Ms Graham, saying her death was "very sad news".

Flood victim described as 'Lismore icon'

One of Ms Graham's close friends, Josh Powell-Fussell, spoke to the Northern Star and said she was very compassionate.

"Marge Graham was a selfless person who improved the experience and careers of many budding Country Music Artists in the Northern Rivers and beyond,” he said.

Susan Mills described Ms Graham as a "surrogate mother".

"Most people know her as a country music star and she’s a Lismore icon, but for us we knew her as family," she told The Northern Star.
