'It was like a pain I've never felt': Girl recalls moment her nose was broken in school fight

A 16-year-old girl could be charged with assault after allegedly breaking a fellow student’s nose in a schoolyard fight north of Melbourne.

Maddy was left with a broken nose and an injured neck in Royal Children’s Hospital during a violent brawl at Broadford Secondary College.

“It was like a pain I’ve never felt before,” Maddy said.

The teen claims she was punched in the face by another Year 10 girl last week, with video emerging of two girls exchanging blows.

“She was just standing over me telling me to get up and fight and I just laid there,” she said.

Maddy’s mum Silvia rushed to the school before taking her daughter to hospital.

She held grave fears for her daughter’s wellbeing.

“It was scary,” the mum said.

“You didn’t know, you know? One stupid argument, and is my daughter going to be paralysed?”

Victoria Police Sergeant Steve Raynor said investigations have begun with witnesses, victims and the alleged offender.

The alleged puncher has been suspended from school for five days, but Maddy’s mum isn’t happy.

“I’m furious that this girl’s going to be back at school before my girl’s even recovered,” she said.

The mother of the girl who allegedly inflicted the injuries told Seven News her daughter had been bullied by her victim for the past three years, and after frustrating inaction by the school she finally snapped and lashed out.

But when asked if Maddy provoked the girl, she replied, “no”.

“Nothing that should leave me in hospital anyway,” she said.
