Mystery 'X-files lights' in the sky leave western Sydney residents stumped

A number of residents in Sydney’s southwest have been left puzzled by mysterious lights appearing in the night sky.

A Macarthur resident posted in a local group on Facebook on Wednesday asking fellow residents if they knew what the lights were. He included video in his post.

In the video the lights can be seen peaking through the clouds and moving in a circular motion.

One man suggested they could be a sign of life beyond the stars.

“Aliens are coming,” he wrote.

Another compared them to something from the cult sci-fi TV series the X-Files.

One woman wrote it could possibly be light “reflecting from bats flying above”.

Others reported seeing the lights from neighbouring suburbs including Bradbury, Rosemeadow and Leumeah.

As for what the lights actually are, it’s not an answer that will please the truthers.

Many people pointed out the lights are from Winterland Campbelltown, which is currently being held at Koshigaya Park.

“Just testing out some 350W lights. Nothing to be worried about,” one man wrote.

The festival runs from July 5 to 21.
