Liberal Sinodinos open to gay marriage law

Liberal senator Arthur Sinodinos says he's prepared to back same-sex marriage if religious institutions are exempted and other concerns can be met.

Senator Sinodinos said he had seen a draft bill expected to be moved by Liberal colleague Warren Entsch and seconded by Labor MP Terri Butler when parliament resumes in August.

But he told Sky News on Wednesday he wanted a more detailed look at the legislation and an assurance that religious institutions would not be put in an "invidious position".
