At least 11 dead in Peru boat collision

At least 11 people have been killed in the collision of two boats in a river in the Peruvian Amazon.

According to preliminary information, six people were also injured and an unknown number of people were missing, the South American country's civil protection authority (INDECI) said on Sunday.

The national news agency Andina cited officials as saying that nine people were missing while the public news channel TV Peru Noticias reported the number of missing as 37.

The Peruvian Navy said staff from the Yurimaguas port authority rescued 60 people and recovered 11 bodies following the collision between the vessels, adding that the search continued.
