LATEST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS:

* NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has implored the state's residents to think twice before going to Boxing Day sales in Sydney's CBD.

* Residents have been asked to limit movement as much as possible, with a COVID-19 cluster on Sydney's northern beaches yet to be fully stamped out.

* NSW recorded seven new locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Friday from a record of more than 70,000 tests. There have been more than 300,000 tests across NSW in the past week.

* The seven new cases identified in the 24 hours to 8pm on Christmas Eve are all connected to the northern beaches, and six were already in isolation

* A child who has tested positive after 8pm on Thursday will be included in Saturday's numbers.

* The latest exposure sites in NSW include a December 21 flight from Sydney to Griffith, and Santa photos at the QBV building.

* That state's health authorities are concerned about the possibility of another Sydney CBD outbreak emerging. Three cases have been connected to Paragon Hotel Sports Bar at Circular Quay.

* The Northern Territory reopened to people travelling from Greater Sydney - the first state or territory to do so since the emergence of the northern beaches cluster.

* Queensland recorded no new locally acquired cases, but a second person travelling on a superyacht in the state's north has tested positive while quarantining, one of two for the state.

* The superyacht case is now the centre of a police investigation

* South Australia recorded two new cases of COVID-19 while Western Australia reported one new case, both in quarantine.

* Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in his Christmas message that Australia had much to be grateful for despite the pandemic, which has killed 908 people.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* There were 15 new cases recorded in Australia on Friday: 10 in NSW, two in Queensland and South Australia and 1 in Western Australia. 7 are locally transmitted cases and the others were diagnosed in hotel quarantine.

* The national death toll is 908: Victoria 820, NSW 55, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states.)
