LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

* Victoria has recorded no new cases of coronavirus and no further deaths for a third day in a row.

* The state's virus death toll remains at 819 and the national figure 907.

* The last time Victoria recorded three days in a row of zero cases was in late February.

* There are 49 active COVID-19 cases remaining in Victoria, the lowest number since June 15.

* Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan said the Victorian government won't further ease restrictions before Sunday, despite the positive figures.

* Ms Allan also said she doesn't expect restrictions to be eased around face masks as they proved to be an "important and effective" tool in slowing the spread of the virus.

* Victoria's Supreme Court threw out a challenge to the state's now-scrapped COVID-19 curfew, finding it was legal and proportionate.

* Hardware giant Bunnings announced its much-adored sausage sizzles will restart at regional Victorian stores from mid-November.

* Acting Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly urged Australians to "keep (their) eye on the ball" after the nation went 24 hours without a single case of community transmission over the weekend.

* Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says Australia is close to securing two more sources for a vaccine, which he expects will start rolling out in 2021.

* NSW recorded one new locally transmitted case linked to a cluster in western Sydney, along with six more infections among overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

* Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed NSW would allow travellers from Victoria to enter the state within a matter of weeks.

* The Northern Territory has opened its border to regional Victoria and plans to bolster the Top End's contact tracing regime.

* Queensland police are warning of likely lengthy delays as the state's border restrictions are relaxed for regional NSW from 1am AEST on Tuesday. The state recorded no new COVID-19 cases on Monday.

* Western Australia had one new case in a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine.

* South Australia recorded no new cases for a second consecutive day.

* The national death toll is 907: Victoria 819, NSW 55, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states.)
