LATEST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS:

* NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will this week release COVID-19 modelling on the looming peak in case numbers and hospitalisations.

* NSW reported 1485 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and three deaths on Sunday as authorities battle to contain the spread of the virulent Delta strain.

* There are 1030 COVID-19 patients in NSW in hospital, with 175 in intensive care and 72 who require ventilation.

* Victoria is ahead of schedule to get 70 per cent of its residents a first COVID-19 vaccination, paving the way for Melbourne's planned easing of restrictions to be brought forward.

* As the state recorded 183 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews revealed 60 per cent of Victorians had received a first dose.

* A guard at a Melbourne detention centre has tested positive for COVID-19, but authorities say he hasn't infected any asylum seekers being held there.

* Canberra recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases, as the territory passed the milestone of having more than 70 per cent of people aged over 16 vaccinated with a single dose.

* The mother of a four-year-old girl who has COVID-19 has also tested positive in Queensland as authorities track down dozens of shoppers who may have been exposed to the virus.

* A wave of coronavirus vaccines is about to sweep Australia's states and territories after 500,000 Pfizer doses from Singapore were given the tick of approval by the nation's medicines regulator.

* Federal Employment Minister Stuart Robert said the national plan to reopen at 70 and 80 per cent vaccinated is not set in stone.

* New Zealand reported 20 new COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day as Jacinda Ardern's government considers the future of restrictions outside Auckland.

AUSTRALIAN VACCINATION NUMBERS:

* There have been 20,855,353 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to Saturday, including 213,595 in the previous 24 hours.

* Of the total, 12,060,450 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 88,637 in the previous 24 hours).

* 8,794,903 have been administered by the states and territories, including 124,958 in the previous 24 hours.

* Nationwide, 62.7 per cent of people aged over 16 have received one vaccine dose while 38.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia reported 1684 local cases on Sunday: 1485 in NSW, 183 in Victoria, 15 in the ACT and one in Queensland.

* There were also four overseas-acquired cases reported: two each in NSW and SA.

* The national death toll is 1039: Victoria 823, NSW 182, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 7, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).

GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Cases: at least 220,289,000

* Deaths: at least 4,561,000.

* Vaccine doses administered: at least 5,428,633,000.
