Man tackled by police said girl was asking for it 'because of mini-skirt'
The man who made headlines when a police officer stopped a press conference to tackle him, has given a disturbing reason for making suggestive comments to a 19-year-old woman.
“She was wearing a mini-skirt so she wants attention to herself,” 39-year-old Laszlo Fekete told reporters on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday.
The 39-year-old is known to police and went on to defend himself by claiming the behaviour was normal in his home country of Hungary.
“In Europe it’s normal … it’s not abuse man” Mr Fekete said with a shrug.
When a reporter told Mr Fekete that in Australia what he did was “unacceptable behaviour toward women,” he responded with “I know, I know.”
He eventually added that he was sorry “for that I apologise”.
Mr Fekete said that he had asked the woman out and felt her father, who had chased him after the encounter, had overreacted.
“I just said to the girl ‘I think you are very pretty girl, would you like to have a coffee?’ and then that was all,” he said.
“If someone were to hurt my daughter I would react the same way but the man just over-reacted,” the father of two added.
Mr Fekete also apologised to Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards who is still sporting a gash on his head from tackling him.
“My knee was a bit hard, I was a ballet dancer so sorry man,” he said.
Mr Fekete received a $300 fine and spent a night in custody for his behaviour.
