Lara Worthington's mother hits back at 'nasty' Twitter trolls
Lara Worthington’s mother Sharon has hit back at “nasty Twitter trolls” after a complaint about the quarantine hotel she had been placed in saw the pair receive little sympathy online.
Sharon Bingle returned to Australia on an international flight on Monday and daughter Lara took to social media to share images of the four-star hotel room her 63-year-old mum has been placed in under the latest travel isolation laws.
“You nasty Twitter trolls will believe anything,” Sharon wrote, sharing an article that included positive Tripadvisor reviews of the hotel she has been staying in.
To some of the nicer images shared of The Urban Newtown, a four-star Sydney hotel with a deliberately industrial design, Sharon also said, “Lies, this is not my room. Not true.”
It all started when Lara took to social media to slam the ‘unacceptable’ conditions her mum has been forced in to.
“I don’t think this looks like a 5-star accommodation to me,” the Aussie model wrote, alongside images showing the room’s concrete roof with exposed ceiling pipes and one very uncomfortable looking metal chair.
“The next 14 days here for my 63-year-old mum who is showing heavy symptoms.”
“This is unacceptable,” she concluded.
However, Lara’s post received little sympathy, regardless of the room’s true state.
The post has been almost unanimously slammed, with the complaints described as ‘entitled’, ‘ungrateful’ and ‘embarrassing’.
“Congrats, this is today's most tone-deaf tweet about the pandemic,” one woman wrote.
“No sympathy at all,” another wrote. “This is about the health of our nation, not your mother’s Yelp reviews for accommodation she pays $0 for.”
“It’s clean, dry and safe,” a woman wrote. “She is better off than lots. Check your privilege.”
