How did LeBron James know Anthony Davis was locked in for Game 4? He checked the brow
Everyone has a tell, a behavior that gives a little something away.
LeBron James knows one of Anthony Davis’ tells and saw it ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers 114-108 win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. The Lakers took a commanding 3-1 lead with the win.
Davis scored the team’s first 10 points and led all scorers with 34 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals in 40 minutes.
James — near a triple-double with 26 points, nine rebounds and eight assists — knew Davis was locked in just by looking at his teammate’s face. There’s one particular aspect of it that is easy to read.
“Just see how low his brow is,” James said. “If his brow is really low, then you know not to talk to him. If it’s higher, then he’s accepted the fact that you’re allowed to come into the office and talk to him. Yesterday his brow was very low, and no one talked to him. So we already knew the mindset he was in.”
Davis, a seven-time All-Star, had a Game 3 to forget with two rebounds, a playoff career low. The Nuggets won that game, 114-106, and dominated the boards, 53-34.
Davis averaging 10.7 rebounds per game in this postseason. Though his board numbers were again low in Game 4, the Lakers outrebounded the Nuggets, 41-33, for 25 second-chance points. And Davis’ scoring at key times went a long way toward the win.
The Lakers and a potentially locked-in AD — check the brow when the team arrives at the arena — will try to put the series away in Game 5 on Saturday night.
