'Disgusting and deceiving': Viewers slam Kyle Sandilands' 'joke' 60 Minutes interview

An ‘emotionally charged’ 60 Minutes interview with shock jock Kyle Sandilands, who was supposedly set to reveal a serious health condition, has left viewers fuming after the piece turned into a ‘joke’.

The controversial radio host was going to open up about a “health battle”, according to the promos, but in the end it was all a joke.

The segment by Karl Stefanovic was filmed over a six-month period in Sydney and Los Angeles.

“There’s a condition that I’ve been diagnosed with and I haven’t spoke to anyone about,” Kyle initially said.

Both he and co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson were in tears until Jackie asked, “Are you joking?”

“Yeah,” was all Kyle responded. “There’s nothing wrong with me,” he later clarified.

“Why would you do that? I genuinely,” Jackie said, calling the stunt ‘emotionally mean’ and ‘cruel’.

Viewers were left outraged by the interview taking to social media to share their anger.

“You have hit rock bottom tonight, 60 minutes,” one person wrote on Twitter. “Knowingly promoting all week a ‘fake story’.”

“Very poor form tonight 60 minutes,” another agreed.

“Disgusting and deceiving. I can expect this from Kyle as he is controversial but I cannot understand how 60 minutes can entertain such a rubbish,” was another outraged comment.

While a fourth wrote: “It’s unacceptable and makes me angry that at a time when people are dying globally, at a time of a pandemic this network and these people are playing jokes with health.”

Even fellow host Derryn Hinch was left unimpressed by Kyle’s latest stunt.

“Anybody who has ever been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and had to tell loved ones, would not appreciate Kyle Sandiland’s ‘joke’ tonight,” he wrote.

The segment with Kyle and Jackie O was to celebrate their 20 years on air together.
