Kristin Cavallari is reminding followers that what people see on social media is often fake after posting a highly edited photo to her Instagram.
The 34-year-old reality television star took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday to share some funny photos that she had taken with friends and edited through an app.
"I have never laughed so hard, you guys. There's an app, it's called FaceApp and it's insane what you can make yourself look like. But you can make yourself look like a different gender and all my friends are doing it right now and they just sent me this one as the three of us as dudes," she said. "You guys have to do this it's so funny."
Cavallari shared a couple of photos of her and her friends with beards, laughing at the way that the app was able to completely change their faces. In another slide, however, she showed how it can also make a photo look deceivingly perfect and seemingly natural.
"I don't look like this. This app is crazy. Instagram is a fake, fake world. Just remember that, kids," she wrote on the selfie. "This is why we should never compare ourselves to others on here."
The reminder comes just a few weeks after Cavallari shared that she's set on creating boundaries when it comes to social media. "I think the biggest thing when you’re having self-doubt is to not be on social media. I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t really read comments on Instagram because it’s just not good for my mental health, good or bad," she told The Cut. "Social media is really robbing us of our happiness, I think. We're constantly comparing our worst to everybody else’s best and that's a really dangerous place to be."
Although she continues to post photos of her happiest moments — including those with her three children whose faces she keeps private — Cavallari is also outspoken about the unsolicited feedback that she gets in response to her posts. Namely, those that have resulted in mom-shaming.
"I don't remember asking for anyone's opinion," she captioned a recent Instagram post.
