What to Know About 10 Million Pounds of Meat Recalled Due to Listeria
  • Nearly 10 million pounds of pre-cooked chicken and deli meat-based meals were recalled by manufacturer BrucePac, the United States Department of Agriculture announced.

  • The items were produced between June 19, 2024, and October 8, 2024.

  • See below for a full list of products affected.

Nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and deli products produced by BrucePac, a pre-cooked meat manufacturer, were collaboratively recalled by the brand and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) due to listeria concerns.

The issue was discovered during a routine inspection by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), per a press release, which tested the products and found them positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The contamination was later linked to BrucePac’s ready-to-eat chicken. If you have a product listed in the recall, be sure to dispose of it immediately.

Listeria bacteria can cause an infection called Listeriosa, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Symptoms include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and diarrhea. Though it may not be serious for some, people who may be especially vulnerable to infection are pregnant people, those 65 or older, or those with weakened immune systems, the CDC notes.
